The main objective of the Fisheries Department is to maximize the fish production and as far as the inland fisheries is concerned the aim of the department is to augment fish production and the productivity in inland water through eco-friendly methods, which will strengthen the rural economy by creating productive employment opportunities. Optimizing utilization of inland water resources, the Fisheries Department aims at maximum participation of the people in the entire process.

FISH SEED REARING AND DISTRIBUTION

         Fish Seed Rearing Unit :Sathiar Fish Seed Farm.

         Location : Konapatti Village 3 Kms. from Palamedu

         Vadipatti Taluk- Madurai District

         Farm-Seed Rearing area : 0.13 ha.

         Infra Structure : 2 Rearing ponds- 30.50x15.15 x1.83 M. each

         20 Cement Nurseries- 6.10x3.03x1.20M.each

         Annual Target for rearing Fish seed : 2.00 Lakhs.

         Species reared : Quick growing Indian Major Carps-Catla, Rohu, Mrigal,& Common Carp.

PRESENT SELLING RATES FOR GROWOUT FISHES

        Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common carp - (Grade-I) -- Rs.100/kg

        Tilapia (above 150g) -- Rs.50/kg

        Tilapia below 150g & others -- Rs.30/kg

PRESENT SELLING RATES OF FINGERLINGS.

         Catla Fingerlings : Rs.252/- per 1000 nos

         Rohu Fingerlings : Rs.252/- per 1000 nos

         Mrigal Fingerlings : Rs.252/- per 1000 nos

         Common Carp fingerlings : Rs.162/- per 1000 No
